THOMAS ALLAN RYAN - Husband, father, son, brother, mentor. Born February 2, 1947, in Toronto. Died September 15, 2007 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, of cancer, aged 60.

Tom was a pillar of strength and didn't suffer fools gladly. His diagnosis of life- threatening skin cancer came in the spring of 2006 and was a shock to both of us. After all, we were having the best years of our lives living at the Ballantrae Golf and Country Club in Stouffville. Life was the best it could be. And so then we began our journey to heal and save his life. From homeopathic care, to nutrition, to surgery, to chemotherapy... we did it all, and he faced his disease "head on" determined to come out a winner. Tom began failing physically as time went on but always held a brave face, and in no way did it stop him from going on "the trip of a lifetime" with his sister and brother-in-law, daugther and wife to Ireland, home of his family roots in August 2006. It was a dream-come-true for all of us thanks to his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Dave Bond. And it was a trip we were all glad Tom made especially since it included our families and golf.
Tom loved to have a good time and golf was his true passion. He lived for golf! And his laughter just filled the room, too. From his two holes-in-one at St. Andrew's in Scotland and Weston Golf and Country Club in Toronto, he played"golf" like there was no tomorrow. And from all the wonderful friendships he made in golf at St. Andrew's East in Stouffville, to curling at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club in Toronto, to all the social gatherings we had in our home watching those games on television, showed his true love of sports indeed. And his love of family was second to none. Christine and Paul were the loves of his life and together we were "family".

From my experience throughout his journey, I have come to believe that the only real resource is that those going through cancer must have the support, encouragement and care along the way. The Vivian Medical Spa and more specifically, Dr. Andrew Wojcicki, Dr. Anna Wojcicka, Graeme and Krystyna, were for Tom his "pillar of strength" and where he received the utmost in "first-class" care as he underwent Intravenous treatments. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Vivian Medical Spa for making a difference...making a difference in someone's life that very few people get to experience during these stressful times. Loving and helping others does make the world a better place, and it is truly the gift of giving, service and compassion that matters...and indeed all of this is found at the Vivian Medical Spa.
Tom touched the lives and hearts of many. He was my best friend and inspiration. His positive attitude and determination, along with the support of his family, friends and the Vivian Medical Spa helped him face his disease with dignity...and so to help those less fortunate who are with cancer, the Vivian Medical Spa would like to help.
His Loving Wife, Carol Sisco

At the Vivian Medical Spa we are honored to have had the pleasure of taking care of Tom on a weekly basis. No matter how much discomfort he was in, he always had a smile and a laugh in his voice. We enjoyed having Tom as part of our Vivian family and we want to remember him with this foundation.
Many people who come to us for treatments believe in what we can offer to them, but being a new and small company, we can only help financially with so much. With the help of the Tom Ryan Cancer Care Foundation and the people that donate to the fund, we would not have to turn anyone away because they cannot afford the treatments to help them live a better and more productive life. We have set up an account with the Royal Bank of Canada. We also have five wonderful dedicated persons to sit on the Board of Directors to oversee the Foundation. We hope in the future many people, with the help of the Tom Ryan Cancer Care Foundation, will be able to appreciate the efforts and dignity of Mr. Tom Ryan. Donations to the Tom Ryan Cancer Care Foundation can be made at any branch of the Royal Bank of Canada.
